This Cedar Strip kayak was built over several years in an outside workshop which resulted in an obvious less than perfect finish. Because of the heavy fiberglass layup, the kayak is heavier than a quality cedar strip kayak. This kayak, like all cedar strip kayaks is fiberglassed on the inside and the outside. But it is solid, floats and paddles well. The deceased original owner wished the kayak to benefit the Rhode Island RICKA Association. Proceeds from the kayak will be donated to RICKA.
The kayak was stored in an outside tent structure, out of the rain and snow, but exposed to heat and cold. It is 18 ft long, 21 1/2" wide and the cockpit is 10" deep (without a seat). A seat should be installed, which could be no more than a foam pad on the bottom. The back band could be replaced but the attachment points are fiberglassed to the hull. (see photo IMG_4903) So if a new back pad is installed, drilling through the hull is an obvious solution. Thigh pads are recommended be installed for a more comfortable fitting. The bottom is painted over the fiberglass. The original owner made several Greenland style paddles which can go with the kayak. There is no sprayskirt or flotation bags for the kayak. This link gives a little more about this design.
Local pickup (or in special cases will deliver within reason) in Rhode Island area. Cash payment upon pickup or delivery. If this kayak does not sell within the year, it is free to a good home. It is available to examine and located in Cumberland, RI.
